Potato is grown in Pakistan on about 111,000 ha. Pakistan produces three potato crops per year i, e autumn, spring and summer. The major production of the potato crop is harvested in the autumn season. The crop is distributed over eight different agro - ecological zones. 70 - 80% of the production is concentrated in the fertile land of Central Punjab and (NWFP). The best & famous potato production areas of Central Punjab are Sahiwal, Okara, Chiniot, Jhang, Kahnewal, Kasur, Gujranwala and Shiekhupura. Likewise the The best & famous potato production areas of (NWFP) are Nowshera, Mardan, Abottabad, Swat, Mansehra and the historical city of Chitral.
