CC-70-700-3 Mcintosh Blade The laryngoscope is a medical device used primarily for tracheal intubation in to view the glottis. It consists of two parts: * A blade that is used to clear the tongue, soft palate and epiglottis. A light source is located at the end thereof. It is either a small light bulb or an optical fiber that brings light from the handle. The blade can be reusable (in which case it is sterilized after each use) or single use. * A handle for manipulating the instrument. It contains the batteries and, in the case of fiber-optic laryngoscope, the light source. The development and use of the laryngoscope in medical practice owe much to the German physician Johann Czermak.
